When I look at what a lot of people are teaching about SEO, it just feels like they’re using the wrong bait.

Only the right bait will get your website to rank well on Google or on search engines.

Well, I really believe and think that the best way to answer your question is simply to go directly to the source for the answer.

SEO Techniques From Google

In this article, we put together five explanation from actual Google employees explaining how to rank better on Google.

1st SEO Techniques By One of the Google Employee

“Don’t be all semantically surprised a bit, if we try to do more understanding on your query.

Let’s say for example that if you type in your search query as “car battery died” and we might rewrite that query a little bit and say “automobile battery died” and then also document understanding so that you can have the same similar sort of words used in a document and we can say oh it’s okay if we can match car and automobile maybe even a specific model of the car.

So we’ll keep working on trying to figure out user intent and what users are asking not just the keywords that they’re using and also document understanding”.

Explanation

Basically, the first thing Google wants us to know is that keywords are dead meaning they aren’t that useful as they once used to be.

The thing is that Keywords is as if there’s some magic phrase you have to have in your blog post in order to rank that ended a long time ago on Google.

Here is how it works now.

People have a simple query or a topic that they want to know and type into Google and they’re going to get the results which Google sees as best or relevant to the search queries input by him/her.

If you type a WordPress course into Google and there’s a page about a WordPress class.

Google understands and knows that both terms are essentially the same thing and so you can rank for both terms with just one article.

So the next time instead of finding the perfect keyword for your blog post, worry more about the quality of the content rather than the Keyword.

Because all in all Keywords may still help Google in finding the right content but the quality of your content matters more.

Because it kind of reinforces a myth about the way that Google works, that is when we discuss about keywords, it leads us to do the wrong perception and focusing our mindset on how we display those keywords on our blog post or page to make sure that Google knows about our content and we could rank for it.

The truth is that as more and more people are using their phone and simply just asking a question.

Google needs to find many similar searches that you can rank for and simply by just having similar content on that topic can mean that you can be ranking for multiple different queries.

Let’s move on to the number two

2nd SEO Techniques By Matthew Cutts

“Think about not link building that limits you to a certain mindset but thinks about compelling content and marketing

Instead how about you first make something compelling, some reasons why they should really want to visit and use your website and then think about the broader area of marketing.”

Explanation

About this statement, Google has been very crystal clear for a decade or more.

The thing is that Google does not want you to create backlinks just for the sole SEO purposes.

Now there are valid ways to promote your content like creating a YouTube channel.

Reach out to actual media companies and get more people linking to your site but when you’re doing anything just to build a backlink instead of providing value and without giving reason why they should link to you but with the hope that you rank better on Google.

In the eyes of Google that is seen as you are trying to cheat the system.

Well essentially you’re trying to trick Google into thinking your content is more helpful than it is and they’ve been just crystal clear that this is a violation of their guidelines

There really is no such thing as absolute white hat backlinking and there’s absolutely such a thing as white hat SEO.

But if you’re building a backlink for the express or sole purpose of ranking better on Google you’ve already violated their guidelines which states “While links are used in ranking, using them to trick search engines into thinking that a site is relevant to violate our direct guidelines”

So if you’re still building links just for SEO, just know that one of the most powerful companies in the world is after you and what they’re trying to do with the most advanced AI system and thousands of employees is to find sites who are violating their guidelines and to drop them in the rankings so that they can display the most helpful and relevant content forward to the user.

You can try to build your business that way, Yes, it may work for a temporary amount of time but it’s just not a sustainable way to build your business.

3rd SEO Techniques By Matthew Cutts

“WordPress automatically solves a ton of SEO issues instead of doing it yourself, you selected WordPress now this is kind of a broad statement WordPress takes care of 80-90 percent of search engine optimization.

When I say that, I meant the mechanics of search engine optimization, Here are the plugins I use and this is literally all the plugins that I use that’s how good WordPress is and you don’t need to modify it that much”

Explanation

This one may seem a bit odd and may even surprise a lot of you but you really don’t even need an SEO plug-in if you’re using WordPress to build your website.

We all think and feel like that SEO is this mysterious black box and we have to check the right boxes or solve some kind of riddle in order to suddenly or magically appear on on the search results page.

So we need this SEO plugin from Yoast or other companies that are going to do these magic things on our website which will help us to rank.

The thing is that Google has already said several times that WordPress is already doing 90% of the SEO work for us.

The thing is that all Google really needs is a simple hierarchy of how the website is laid out, so they can easily hover and find the pages, however, they do need a title, they do need a description, the website needs to load fast and you should provide the content. That’s really it.

If you have finished that, you’ve already done probably 99% of SEO for your site.

Now there is that 1% of SEO that’s working through some serious issues.

Do we index our category pages on a massive e-commerce site with thousands of pages because it has duplicate content on that page or rel canonical or a multi-page article and how to properly tag that correctly?

Now that the SEO minutia is valid and for example if you have a massive site with thousands or even tens of thousands of pages then, you’ve got to be paying a little bit more attention to that kind of thing to get any little bump as possible.

Because if you apply the solution to thousands of  pages, it can really help, but like for almost all of us who are just building simple websites as an investment looking for a passive income.

Even if you just have stock WordPress and never even install an SEO plugin you’re probably gonna be just fine.

That is why Matthew Cutts from Google said that he necessarily doesn’t even use any SEO plug-in on his website.

Now can the SEO plugins be useful?

Yes but just realize that it’s about doing that special little tagging for that 1%, however, 95-99 or huge percent of it is already done for you by default.

Let’s move on to step 4.

4th SEO Techniques By Matthew Cutts

“Keyword density! let’s talk about it a little bit. Many people believe that there is some secret recipe and you can just follow that like baking a cookie and if you simply follow it to the letters, then you’ll rank number one and sadly that’s just not the way it works.

So if you think that, okay now I’m gonna have 14.5% keyword density or 8% or 87% and that will mean I’ll rank number one, that’s really not the case and that’s not the way that the search engine rankings work”

Explanation

You necessarily and absolutely do not need to focus on keyword density on your posts anymore.

Years ago a decade ago this was something very valid since Google was very early on in its ability to figure out just what your page is about and making it show up for the right search result.

Now Google can do that very very well and so I don’t have to say SEO, SEO, SEO, a million times in my blog posts in order to rank for SEO.

That’s why I really have stopped recommending the Yoast SEO plugin because it asks you to have the focus keyword and just has that old mindset of seed, keyword, how much keywords density instead of a semantic search.

Let’s go to number 5.

5th SEO Techniques – Use Simple URL as recommended in Google SEO Guide

The last one is simple URL

Google has mentioned it in its starter guide.

If you’ve never read Google’s starter guide to ranking well on Google you really should read it and click here to get to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Starter Guide from Google itself.

This is Google’s actual article or document telling you how exactly and what you should do to rank well on Google.

It’s the most important SEO document ever and it’s so straightforward and that at the end, I think you’ll have the impression that if I just create good content and do a reasonable job on the other stuff, then I think gonna be just fine.

And that’s what I have always taught, so simple URLs rank better than long long URLs.

When you install WordPress by default it’s going to be shoutips.com/?/date-hashtag-keyword-signs

If that’s your URL then it doesn’t tell the user very much about what they’re gonna get on that page and so when just the link is shared people necessarily don’t know what’s your article about and in the search result it shows you that link, So this is a place that you can reinforce to the user that they’re gonna get what they’re looking for.

So we recommend that in your Google default settings, you use the post name as the default and then all often change that to be even shorter.

So if I’m writing about you know SEO Tools in my post it may be 15  SEO tools with SEO Tools in the title and I’ll just shorten that to be Seo-Tools.

Then when somebody Google’s it and they see that link in the search result, it reinforces what that page is about and tells them I have the information you’re looking for “click on me”.

Final Words:

In a nutshell, following SEO techniques as per google recommendation is very much essential to drive tons of free organic traffic to your website.
