Computer troubleshooting knowledge is required to fix computer issues on our own. Good performance of computer is important for us to work quickly and complete all our tasks within the stipulated time period.

So whenever we get time, let us try to do some basic troubleshooting which will help our computer work well  without any unnecessary lagging.

Some Computer Troubleshooting Steps You Can Follow: 

Remove Temp Files:

First of all, let us see how to remove temp files. You can straight away go to START – > RUN window and type %temp% . Then press Enter key. which will lead to opening of all the temporary files in a folder. If you have a glance over those files, you will realize all are unnecessary files so press CTRL+A to select all and you can delete it permanently by pressing SHIFT+DEL key

This is the one of the manual way to delete temp files. Other than this there are several tools in the market you can make use of. 

Use Ccleaner:

One of the most popular tool is Ccleaner. Get Ccleaner installed in your machine (basic version is available at free of cost) and this tool will perform basic troubleshooting.

Initially you need to click analysis option to find out all the temp files hidden in your computer and then cleaning option peforms the cleaning of temp files. Ensure you have all browsers closed while performing cleaning else browser cache files will remain. 

Use Antivirus Software:

Ensure you have antivirus software installed in your computer to scan the entire files and folders which will help your system free from all Trojans,Viruses etc. McAfee is one of the best antivirus software you can use.

Reboot Your Computer:

Rebooting or restarting your computer too will fix some issues. It’s unbelievable?. But its true. Really rebooting your computer is one way of troubleshooting. For example, if you are using your computer for long time, it will lead to slow down the processes in your computer. So you need to reboot it.

Some people won’t have the habit of rebooting or restarting their desktop computers or laptop. They used to put it in hibernate or sleep status always whenever they are not in use. But this is a bad practice. Ensure your computer is getting rebooted almost every day.

Force Close Frozen Programs:

If any of the programs gets hanged while running, it will impact all other processes or programs in running properly. So open task manager by typing ‘Task Manager’ in the start search option. Clicking on it, will get a pop up window open up. Right click on all unnecessary\hanged\frozen programs and get the task closed. This will improve the speed of your computer.

Defragment Files:

Search for ‘Disk Defragmenter’ in your computer. This tool is available by default in your windows OS. Using this tool, you can scan your computer for split up files and get it reassembled to improve the performance.


As a result of performing these kind of troubleshooting, you can see some improvement in performance of your computer.
